Being a first time cruiser can be a little overwhelming, especially when it comes to making the decision on which cruise you will take for a trip to the Caribbean. One of the biggest choices a first timer will need to make when they commit to trying a cruise will be how long of a voyage will they go on. Lengths of cruises vary from line to line, but you can find any length for any budget as there are day cruises all the way up to one hundred and twenty days around the world cruises
Why Five Days Instead of shorter
Of course most people might look at how much time they have off from work and decide that's how long of a cruise I will take, but if you are not sure if cruising is right for you, then you may want to decide to take a shorter voyage instead. Three and four day cruises are pretty inexpensive and will give a taste of what the cruise vacation is like. However, I would recommend to folks who have never cruised before to take a 5 day cruise to start. Reason is that the three and four day cruises go by so quickly that it almost feels like by the time you get settled, it is time to go. Plus if you have to travel a distance to get to the ship it would seem almost a waste to go so far for so short.
Five Days let's you get your Feet Wet
The five day cruise will usually give you two sea days and two port days. It allows you a whole day to get settled. Plus on most cruise lines, the first sea day is usually filled with great events that get you familiar with all of the staff and the places on board. When you do a 3 or a 4 day cruise, the ship is generally in port the day after you get on, so most folks go right out to enjoy the port. So you miss out on the first sea day experience.
Continuing with the 5 day cruise experience, after the first sea day, you will have port days, followed by another sea day. That last sea day is great for you to just relax and enjoy as I am sure you have been pretty busy exploring the ports. For some folks more port days are better than sea days. Many first timers think this way, but you'll find that the more cruises you do, you'll want more sea days than ports because it is truly the ship that is the vacation destination rather than the ports. Enjoy your first cruise.
