If you are planning to go on a cruise this year, or if you have never been on one, then it is time to seriously consider a European cruise vacation!
There are many reasons for this: The first and obvious reason is the choice of incredible destinations available for sight-seeing tours. Whether it is beautiful sandy Mediterranean beaches, breath taking fjords of Scandinavia, or the chance to marvel at ancient ruins, a European cruise can offer it all. The second reason is of course the journey itself - The Cruise. You will get to climb aboard some of the most luxurious and exotic ships to take this journey. It doesn't always have to break the bank either, If luxury ships sound a little expensive there are much more affordable options such as discount cruises, which can of course be just as fun.
European cruises are a great way to relax with family and friends while seeing the world - sound wonderful doesn't it! However there are a few things that need to be looked into before committing and making reservations and packing your bags: Some cruises cater to families - the reality of this meant that these cruises are tailor made for people who have children. The ships will have amenities on board to keep children and parents happy and the solo traveller or slightly older traveller may want to avoid this cruise, unless they love the jovial screams of kids of course...!
Other cruises are more suited for couples going on their honeymoon or couples looking for some time together, as well an ever growing number of over 50's cruises. Generally you'll find that the destinations will reflect the different choices available.
Going for a European cruise is not always about the fun and games available within the cruise liner - you could say it is a combination of education and entertainment. When you stop at all the different ports, you will learn about the culture, traditions, food and history of the place you have taken port in. Although if your palate or constitution isn't too keen on trying other foods, accommodation and meals take place on the boat, so you can rest assured that you will be able to eat to your heart's content!
Once you reach a particular destination, for example Rome, there will be excursions made available for you to go sightseeing and soak up some of the culture and ambience within the city. These are called shore excursions and you will be able to see all the cathedrals, monuments and museums that are to be found on the tourist trail.
European cruises also include river cruises. This is done because many places are not accessible with bigger liners. Therefore smaller boats are taken to see the out of the way places - which often hold the greatest intrigue. The most popular river boat cruises take place on the Seine, Danube and the Rhine.
Of course another way to go for a European cruise, and by far one of the most popular, is by taking a luxury cruise. These cruises can be seen as 5 star hotels on water! They will serve delicious gourmet food, put on world class entertainment and make available state of the art amenities. This is a perfect way to take in the sights and sounds of Europe.
So take the stress out of your holiday - let someone else worry about food, accommodation, travelling and planning and enjoy the sights and new friends you'll meet.

There are many people which often are asking themselves just which is the best cruise line out there. The answer is so simply that many of us tend to overlook it. That certain cruise company which manages to fit our needs or our travel style is the perfect cruise line. The actual key in all this is to be able to find everything you want in a cruise. For those who are interested in a luxury cruise company, below you will find some pointers which should guide in the right direction.
Crystal and Regent Seven Seas are two cruise companies which are able to take with them the gold medal for offering onboard luxury without actually sacrificing the other attractions or amenities. Most of their cruise vessels are very large, as they are able to carry between 700 and 1,000 passengers, but that did not stopped them to still offer extraordinary service and luxurious accommodations.
Regent Seven Seas provides a few alternative dining venues, additionally with the main dining room, which will always offer excellent cuisine service. They also have a children program on many luxury sailings which is far more complete than the programs that other cruise lines provide. They even offer a sail free for children who are as third or fourth guests in a certain stateroom.
Crystal cruise line provides a more robust onboard cruise program that usually includes famous guests and piano lessons. They have a spa which got top rates in Conde Nast Traveler`s latest reader pool, and they also provide Italian oriented restaurants with dishes which are usually created by master chef Wolfgang Puck.
If you are really interested in a cruise company, but you have budget problems, Celebrity provides all the amenities that other large cruise ships provides, but with more luxurious elements than the other cruise companies.

There were eight of us enjoying the Cunard Queen Mary 2's 4D Presidents Weekend sailing to the Bahamas on 15-19 February . Here's the list of favorite things:
1. Britannia Restaurant is the main dining room where the majority of passengers enjoy their meals. This beautiful multi-level room offered great service, selection, and presentation. Plus, Cunard does a great job with the variety of offerings.
2. Cabin Stewards - Excellent, friendly service including tidying up clothes along with keeping the cabin and bathroom very clean.
3. Buffet - Convenient with wide selections available when you are, and the wait staff buses your table while you are still seated.
4. Tender Service to Princess Cays (Private Island) - very efficient service back and forth.
5. Britannia guest room toiletries are of superior quality. It really did enhance the experience.
6. Britannia bathrooms are well laid out and of a reasonable size.
7. Space - This ship has so much public space. The QM2 is designed for long voyages, and thus provides tremendous public space to sit, mingle, play games, etc. The corridors and public areas are very wide. You can always find space to sit alone or in a group. The top deck is huge with minimum obstructions, just wide open spaces.
8. Speed; it took a while to realize that this voyage from NYC to the Bahamas would be nearly impossible on most other ships. The QM2's propulsion system is quite unique with four propellers and NO rudder!
9. The Queen's Room; this room, in and of itself must be mentioned. The extravagant Queen's Room focuses as a ballroom in the evening's for Cunard's renowned ballroom events. During the day, high tea is offered along with bingo.
10. The QM2 has a very non-commercial environment. Cunard makes future cruise sales, shopping, up-charge dining, art auctions, etc., available but does NOT advertise non-stop! There is a deliberate lack of both constant announcements on the PA and in-room flyers urging you to spend your money. Plenty of money spending options are available if you wish to avail yourself for those services. Further, production shows are not interrupted with commercials. This whole environment makes for a more elegant cruise experience.
10.5 Lectures; This particular voyage featured a PhD speaking on the Bermuda triangle and global climate change issues; Cunard caters to a clientèle that enjoys enrichment activities and the intellectual stimulation was most welcome.

The Magic of a River Cruise

Expert Author Neal W Vinson
For many centuries, rivers were the world's main "highways". Most famous cities grew up along the banks of rivers, using the river as the main form of transportation and trade. As the major cities or quaint villages flourished, many beautiful cathedrals, monuments, city centers, and other charming attractions lined the river banks. These cities are the true heritage of the civilization that developed on the river.
A great new way to explore and experience these gems along the rivers of the world is a river cruise. Serene and picturesque, river cruising offers a peaceful journey along the world's most extraordinary waterways. Complete comfort and convenience make it the prime way to experience magnificent cities, historic villages and quaint enclaves. From your stateroom balcony, endless natural beauty combines with evolving views of the colorful local scenery. Castles and fortresses tower on both sides, as if you could reach out and touch them. When your ship docks, you'll step straight into the heart of intriguing cities, towns, and villages. You'll be expertly guided on included excursions to the places you have never experienced. Whether visiting a Portuguese winery for a tasting of the country's world-renowned Port wine, or sampling the life of French royalty on a stroll through the halls of Versailles, you'll be given an insider's access to the best experiences each destination has to offer. Once back onboard your luxury river cruise ship, you'll sail away from the day's adventure into an evening of fine dining complete with complimentary, perfectly paired wine.
Onboard you'll be greeted by the cheerful smiles of a caring staff, whose greatest desire is to make you feel at home every moment you're onboard. You can move freely through the ship, unencumbered by crowds as you explore your floating home. With an average capacity of about 130 guests there are plenty of public space for socializing and dining, as well as many nooks and alcoves perfectly designed for quiet reading or day dreaming.
Unpack just once then settle in as each destination comes to you. With no need to navigate from place to place, you'll find a sense of adventure and a sense of home, all in one vacation. Unlike traditional ocean cruises, you don't spend a lot of days at sea with short stops in between. You'll get to thoroughly explore the towns, villages and exotic scenery along the great rivers of the world.
There are a very large collection of river cruise vacations throughout Europe, Egypt, Vietnam, Cambodia and China. You can choose from a number of itineraries along the legendary Danube, Rhine, Moselle, Main, Rhone as well as lesser-known rivers in Europe. Or, if your tastes lean more toward the adventuresome, break away and discover the mysteries of the orient along the mighty Yangtze, the exotic Mekong or the ancient wonders along the Nile.
With great satisfaction, you will know that the beauty of your surroundings is matched by the great value you're enjoying, with all meals, hosted shore excursions, onboard entertainment, local guides, onboard lectures, arrival and departure day transfers, and so much more included in your fare. All that's left for you to do is enjoy the magic of a river cruise.

Beirut Charter at Zaitunay Bay

Expert Author Jane Daly
This year Beirut yachting action is in the heart of the city at the newly opened Zaitunay Bay, an eclectic development of retail outlets, restaurants and cafes which line the water front all the way from the old St. Georges Hotel to the not yet open Le Yacht Club Beirut.
An updated incarnation of Avenue des Francais, once the palm fringed sea front promenade at the centre of smart Beirut, it offers a chance to fully embrace the yachting lifestyle with privately owned and charter yachts berthed in gleaming rows in front of the Riviera style cafes and restaurants. A haven from the pressures of day to day life, the marina is ideally positioned for Beiruti locals as well as visitors staying in the Downtown area. Stroll along the extensive board walk around the marina's edge to get a better feel for this vibrant project, or even better arrive for an early cappuccino in one of the waterside cafes as a precursor to a day out on the water.
Chartering from the marina allows visitors the benefits of easy taxi drop-off, or convenient covered parking, only a few steps away from a selection of yachts ranging in size from 30 to 100ft. Plan a break from city living or a demanding sightseeing schedule and make the most of being right next to the sea with a surprise afternoon out for a loved one, a day with the family, or an onboard party - there is a yacht to suit every occasion. The marina is just a short cruise from the rocks at Raouche, the wide expanse of Jounieh Bay, and a number of thriving beach clubs which offer a pick-up service for guests on anchored yachts who want to come ashore for a taste of the chillout beachfront ambience. Back onboard, there is no better place from where to appreciate the full panorama of the Beirut coastline against its dramatic mountain backdrop.
Returning to the marina as the sun sets over the Mediterranean, there are plenty of reasons not to rush home. Restaurants and cafes are serving everything from traditional Lebanese fare to unpretentious French cuisine, and a glass of nicely chilled Chateau Musar as you enjoy the evening finale is a must.
The new Zaitunay is going to be a great success - it's accessible, it's stylish, and it manages to capture the fun loving international flavour of pre war Beirut whilst remaining strictly contemporary - it's really not to be missed!

When people think of taking a Caribbean cruise, if they have never been on one before, they always have the same thoughts. They think of the TV show "the Love Boat" and that people go on board a cruise to find that special someone to have a romantic encounter with. The reality is the Captain's name is not Stubbing the doctor is not a gigolo, the cruise director does not have a clipboard, and most guests are actually on the cruise with someone they are already romantically involved with. When you cruise for one you should keep this and some of these other points in mind.
1. Cruising for one is not for everyone. If you enjoy doing things are your own, you are outgoing and like to get involved you can have a blast. You need to have the right attitude from the start. Don't expect the cruise line to see you on the manifest listed on your own and say, "we need to get that person hooked up with some cruise buddies." You'll need to make your own friends. It's really easy to do on a ship. Everyone is in the same boat! So you'll have that in common. Strike up a conversation with someone.
2. Do tell the maitre d you want to sit a large table with other guests. Especially if they are also cruising on their own. They maitre d will usually do this automatically, but sometimes it doesn't happen. So just stop by and see him at the beginning of the cruise.
3. Get involved in the activities on board. Especially the group based activities. A lot of activities on a ship you do by yourself. You'll want to get involved in the ones that put you into groups. If you are not sure which ones are which, just ask one of the cruise staff or the cruise director. The group activities are generally more fun anyways and you'll meet plenty of folks. Then after the activity is over, suggest to your new team mates to go and do something afterwards whether it's grabbing a bite to eat or playing a round of mini golf.
4. Do not expect a lot of "Singles" or other folks who are cruising by themselves. There will be some but not many. Most ships do host a single's party on the first night, however depending on the age bracket you may find that there is a huge difference between yourself and some of the other singles. If you want to meet other singles during a cruise, then look into single's groups that book cruises together. When you sail on a voyage with one of these groups they will have extra "meet and greet" events to make sure you get a chance to meet the others in the group who are cruising on their own.
5. Don't be afraid to talk with the crew. They are supposed to talk with you. You are the guest, but many crew members do actually enjoy having a normal conversation with the guests. Just be mindful of when you are doing this. If it is swamped at the front desk it's not the time to make chit chat, however if it is completely dead, the person working there would much rather be talking to you then doing nothing. The best crew for talking to while working are the bar staff, the staff bussing tables on the lido deck, or perhaps your casino dealer if the table is not too busy. Don't expect the crew to invite you to the crew bar or something like that as the lines have rules about that sort of thing however you will find it very interesting to learn about the different nationalities that work on board.
If that sounds like you, then you are the right kind of person to cruise on your own. Of course if you just want to be alone with your thoughts, you can do that to. When you cruise for one you have that choice. I am sure there are a lot of people who cruise with someone else wished that they could be on their own too.

Cruise ships off some of the very finest in vacation travel. Without doubt the luxury liners today are outfitted with everything the adventure junkie could expect and also for the more sedate all of the leisure you would expect from a five star hotel.
The fact is that with the high cost of airfares and the hassle of dealing with security lines and searches, you might be better off taking a cruise with the family than a trip to Europe. Let's take a look at some advantages.
  • No jet lag involved
  • Great activities while you travel to exotic locations
  • Friendly staff who cater to your every need (you can even have peanuts if you like)
  • Costs are comparable to airfare alone
  • Your room reservations are part of the package
  • Arrangements for luggage and personal belongings are simple and effective
  • There is age specific entertainment for both adults and children
  • You only have to unpack your clothing once as there are fully furnished rooms to put your things
  • You can visit multiple countries on one cruise so everyone can be happy
  • Safety is a prime concern for many parents and what better place than supervised a ship?
During times of challenging home budgets and picking the right vacation from so many places to go and see, it is clear that a cruise on the seas can be entertaining to parents and children alike. And with prices for cruise deals all over the place from a Disney cruise to a simple single day sightseeing trip to nearby islands, you cannot miss a golden opportunity like this.
A few other things not listed that might come as a surprise is that when you take cruises and do some business on trips then you might be able to write off the trip cost off on your taxes. Of curse you will need to speak with your tax adviser, but it has been my experience that so long as you are conducting business any travel related to that business is a write off on taxes.
All I did was spend about four hours of one day working on material for a book I was writing and a trip to Aruba was partially written off. This can be a great incentive to taking that dream cruise with the kids. While they are busy having fun you can hammer out a few hours of work and the trip is a win-win situation all around.
So you see, there are many advantages to choosing cruise ship travel with kids over an airline flight that can be both a bother and expensive. That's partly why cruise ship travel with kids [http://www.travelsquared.com/traveling-kids/] can be made to be a joy and cherished memory for many years. If you would like more tips and great advice then Globe Trotting 101 [http://globetrotting101.com] to get a zero cost newsletter delivered like clockwork.

Being a first time cruiser can be a little overwhelming, especially when it comes to making the decision on which cruise you will take for a trip to the Caribbean. One of the biggest choices a first timer will need to make when they commit to trying a cruise will be how long of a voyage will they go on. Lengths of cruises vary from line to line, but you can find any length for any budget as there are day cruises all the way up to one hundred and twenty days around the world cruises
Why Five Days Instead of shorter
Of course most people might look at how much time they have off from work and decide that's how long of a cruise I will take, but if you are not sure if cruising is right for you, then you may want to decide to take a shorter voyage instead. Three and four day cruises are pretty inexpensive and will give a taste of what the cruise vacation is like. However, I would recommend to folks who have never cruised before to take a 5 day cruise to start. Reason is that the three and four day cruises go by so quickly that it almost feels like by the time you get settled, it is time to go. Plus if you have to travel a distance to get to the ship it would seem almost a waste to go so far for so short.
Five Days let's you get your Feet Wet
The five day cruise will usually give you two sea days and two port days. It allows you a whole day to get settled. Plus on most cruise lines, the first sea day is usually filled with great events that get you familiar with all of the staff and the places on board. When you do a 3 or a 4 day cruise, the ship is generally in port the day after you get on, so most folks go right out to enjoy the port. So you miss out on the first sea day experience.
Continuing with the 5 day cruise experience, after the first sea day, you will have port days, followed by another sea day. That last sea day is great for you to just relax and enjoy as I am sure you have been pretty busy exploring the ports. For some folks more port days are better than sea days. Many first timers think this way, but you'll find that the more cruises you do, you'll want more sea days than ports because it is truly the ship that is the vacation destination rather than the ports. Enjoy your first cruise.
