Vacationers or tourists can board luxury Italian cruises from a number of places, as these depart from several ports around the country. The Ligurian Peninsula in Italy is a haven for discerning travelers. Mainly undiscovered by mass tourism, attractive Italian villages line the coastline in this magnificent area of Italy. In Genoa, people can see the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, as well as marvel at the city's striking Gothic architecture. A little further to the south, Livorno is a port of call, which is another place worth spending time at. Vacationers can organize shore excursions to see the renowned leaning tower of Pisa and visit the grand Renaissance city of Florence.

Other essential attractions to visit when on an Italy cruise are The Colosseum at Rome, Mount Vesuvius and the ancient city that it buried, Pompeii. Rimini on the Adriatic Sea is also another major attraction. From Rimini, cruisers can take a shore excursion to visit the enclave of San Marino, which is less than an hour's drive from Rimini port.

Lastly, irresistible Venice is the final stop at the end of the cruise. It is a true water world that consists of more than 120 islands. Through these islands, a network of waterways can be explored by gondola.

Cruise Europe With the Royal Caribbean

By Ross Fraser Platinum Quality Author

The Caribbean is a rhythmic and colourful place, full of life and energy. It's also the perfect place to relax with white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters surrounding them on a Royal Caribbean cruise. A cruise among these islands offers a wonderful way of visiting this amazing area, giving you the chance to view them from afar and then jump in with both feet and join in with some real island fun.

The name 'Caribbean' is derived from the Carib Indians, they were present in the region in the 15th century when the first European contact was made. Among the islands in the Caribbean there are many beautiful beaches and plenty of places to relax and feel at peace with the world. Delve deeper and you'll find that each island has it's own traditions and identity. With vibrant scenery, colonial history and the wonderful rhythm of reggae each island has plenty to offer you.

Barbados is one of the most popular islands of the Caribbean, with over a million visitors annually. It is a coral island and compared to it's neighbours it is relatively flat. The island retains much from it's almost 350 years of colonial rule, with many English place names, driving on the left, and afternoon tea. Bridgetown is the island's historic capital and has many quaint streets which are very pleasant for an afternoon stroll to do a little duty free shopping.

St Lucia is one of the windward islands of the Caribbean and is a volcanic island that is just 27 miles long and 14 miles wide. Most of the interior of the island is covered in lush rain forest and St Lucia boasts many white sandy beaches. One of St Lucia's most famous landmarks are the Pitons - two volcanic plugs or lava necks, these are incredible landforms created when lava hardened within a vent on an active volcano, and they are very impressive to see.

Trinidad and Tobago are incredible islands for those who enjoy wildlife. Trinidad has more than 450 bird species while Tobago has over 200 and considering it's size which is just over 115 square miles of land that's pretty impressive. Trinidad is also home to 108 types of mammals, 55 reptiles, 25 amphubians and 620 types of butterflies. This amazing variety is because of it's location at the tip of South America. Because of the size of both islands, and the ease of accessibility to popular sites many species can be seen without lots of driving or walking. Tobago is surrounded by wonderful rich and colourful reefs which are home to more than 300 species of coral and over 600 species of fish. It is perfect for diving and snorkelling

These are just four of the many islands to be found in the Caribbean, and as you can see they have plenty to offer everyone. Throughout the Caribbean there are quaint villages to be enjoyed, with lush rain forests, crystal clear waters and even the odd coffee plantation to visit as you discover the area's colonial history and musical rhythm you can't help buy relax in this wonderful laid back atmosphere.

Why not try a cruise in the Caribbean with Royal Caribbean cruises

Island cruises is the trading name for a cruise line which is operated by Sunshine Cruises. They operate two ships - the Island Star and Island Escape both of which carry in excess of 1,500 passengers in style and comfort predominately around the Mediterranean Sea.

A Mediterranean 14 night cruise departs from Palma, Majorca in the early evening and begins sailing the Mediterranean Sea giving passengers time to explore the ship and discover the onboard amenities before having to decide which of the many cafes, bars and restaurants to dine in.

The following day and night are spent at sea where passengers can soak up the Mediterranean sun by a pool or the more energetic can use the gym facilities. The ship also has activities designed with children in mind to keep them occupied and happy. Eating and drinking is offered in a wide variety of different style settings offering a wide choice of culinary delights.

The ship arrives on day three in Palermo, Sicily at breakfast time and remains docked for the majority of the day to enable passengers to go ashore and discover the delights of this bustling, thriving city. The ship leaves Sicily late afternoon and continues cruising the Mediterranean Sea arriving in Civitavecchia, Italy in the morning. This port is ideally situated for discovering the local area or take an optional excursion to places a little further away, before returning to the ship ready to leave port in the early evening and sail through the night.

Day five begins with the ship continuing to sail before arriving in Ajaccio, Corsica in time for lunch. The afternoon can be spent ashore discovering both the classical Mediterranean scenery or relaxing on one of the beautiful beaches. The ship leaves Corsica in the evening, sails through the night and docks in the beautiful island of Sardinia. The traditional Sardinian foods can be sampled at lunchtime in one of the numerous seafront restaurants, many of which specialise in local fish dishes.

The ship continues cruising the Mediterranean Sea before hopping between the Balearic islands of Menorca and Majorca. The scheduled itinerary continues with day nine at sea relaxing and soaking up the sun, arriving in Messina, Sicily on day ten where a whole host of discovery and sightseeing adventures await. Late afternoon the ship leaves this delightful island to make its way to Naples, Italy for the start of week two of the cruise, the ship remains docked in Naples for the whole day which gives passengers plenty of time to go ashore and discover this vibrant and exciting city before returning onboard to carry on cruising to Livorno, Italy to sample the delights of Tuscany.

Day thirteen sees the ship arrive in the historic port of Toulon on the French coast, where another day can be spent ashore enjoying the beautiful coastline. The last day of the cruise is spent in the vibrant and cosmopolitan city of Barcelona, Spain before arriving back in Palma, Majorca early the following morning for disembarkation.

The itinerary for this cruise does not include flights to and from Majorca, although the tour operator will gladly arrange these.

Cruise 1st offers the most attractive packages for island cruises to plan a family vacation or romantic holiday with your loved one.

Cruises in Turkey

Most do not think about Turkey as a cruise destination, but this historically rich land offers some of the finest vistas and ports of call along the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas. These cruises are much lower in cost than other options in the region, and the activities and ports of call lead many to make return trips to Turkey and plan repeat cruises to the country.

The straddling of two continents has meant that Turkey has always offered the world a unique mixture of both Western and Eastern culture. The country has a powerful cultural, economic, and historical presence, in its region of the world. And, currently often serves as a gateway between the western European Union, eastern Central Asia, northern Russia, and southern Middle East.

Turkey has long been at the crossroads between Europe and Asia, and as a result, this nation is wealthy in history and culture. Many tourists on cruises stay in western Mediterranean waters, and as a result, Turkey is an undiscovered cruising destination. Tour packages are available which cater to those who enjoy pristine coastal resorts as well as to those who seek historic sites.

There are a variety of ports of call along the Turkish coast, and the best method to see them all is to travel between them on the water. The best part of taking a cruise vacation in Turkey is that most of the traveling is done as the passengers sleep. This means that not a moment of waking vacation time is wasted in traveling between cities in Turkey. Even as the ship sails through the crystalline waters surrounding Turkey, on board activities and dining ensure that the Turkey cruise traveler never has a dull moment.

Cruising Your Way Around Europe

By Jeffrey Hauser Platinum Quality Author

A great way to see parts of Europe without a lot of the usual hassle is to book a cruise. In mid-May, we flew to Barcelona from Phoenix via British Airways direct flight to London with a short second flight to Spain. From there, we boarded a Royal Caribbean ship, the Splendor of the Seas, for the beginning of a seven day exploration. Our trip would begin in Southern France stopping at Villefranche-sur-Mer and Nice, then Livorno, Citavecchia, and Naples in Italy.

The large ship was our floating hotel, which not only took us to our destinations, but provided our meals, entertainment and offered a plethora of excursion choices. For instance, the first port allowed us to tour Marseille and gave us the historic and scenic overview in the luxury of a first-class motor-coach. It would then stop for lunch and give us shopping time. The same was true for all other ports of call. As we slept, the ship would move on to the next adventure. There was no need to pack and unpack and book another hotel. We would wake up in the next town refreshed and ready for the newest experience. We explored Marseille with its amazing beaches and then saw Cannes, just at the time of the Grand Prix, which traverses the entire city. Grandstands were everywhere. The harbor is magnificent and loaded with expensive yachts.

Then it was on to Italy. We bypassed Pisa and headed for Florence, an hour inland. I am an artist and greatly enjoyed the rich architectural wonders and artistry that defines this unique Renaissance city. Michelangelo's sculpture from David to Moses are a must see. We used a full day to exhaust the cobblestone streets and ate pizza in an outdoor café with a view of the main square. Awesome! The next day it was on to Rome, also an hour inland. The tour included the Coliseum, the highlight of any Roman visit. To see it in person is breathtaking.

Our final tour showed us Sorrento in the morning and Pompeii in the afternoon. The first was exhilarating as you drive high along the soaring cliffs with the sea below. The latter is fascinating to view the 2000 year-old ruins that are sill under excavation with acres left to uncover. Seeing a bakery with actual loaves of bread in the oven is almost as chilling as seeing the preserved bodies. Mount Vesuvius still looms large in the background.

The final day at sea brought us back to Barcelona where he stayed an extra day to view the beautiful city. It was a bit disconcerting eating dinner at nine at night, but that's Spain. In summation, we saw a good chunk of Europe in style and safety while letting the cruise line help us pick the best tours. On our own, I doubt if we could have seen all the sights we saw in a week. Check the Internet for available places to explore. From England to Norway to Russia and beyond, ships sail to almost every part of Europe. Bon voyage!

Taking Luxury to the Next Level With Luxury Mega Yachts

by Gordon Banks

We all know what luxury yachts are. These are expensive sea vessels that are privately owned by individuals or at times owned by companies for exclusive use of their clients and the owners of these companies and corporation. And these vessels can be classified as either sailing or the so-called motor yachts. But the most striking differences of these vessels as compared to the other vessels out there is the fact that these are exclusive and only a select few one these playthings. But remember that there is still another class that can be placed way above these luxury vessels. These sea toys are more exclusive and of course, more expensive. Just check out these luxury mega yachts and for sure you'll understand why.

If the typical luxury yachts that can be seen docked in the Caribbean and near Monaco starts from 82 feet and can reach more than 162 feet, the ones called mega in the industry are much more imposing. To fully have an idea, then a quick check on the amenities of the typical sea vessels may be in order. The ordinary yet pricey ones may start at 82 feet, and other may run up to 164 feet. And these vessels usually feature three decks, and some will have four decks. These decks are carefully-arranged and planned, putting visitors and guests in mind. The first deck is where most of the outside action and activities are located. This is the place where most of guests can mingle with each other. The deck two should is considered as the main deck, and this deck is the location of the dining hall and other rooms. The upper deck is for socials as the bars and outdoor dining can be seen here. And finally, there is the sun deck. The place where guests can relax, get a tan or perhaps wait for the setting of the sun. That's basically what your typical luxury yacht is.

Now the so-called mega ones are a step up from these. The mega ones as they are called are still rare and you can't easily see them docked in the Caribbean, but its popularity is beginning to soar. These mega ones are those that can measure more than 100 meters or more that 328 feet. One defining factor of these vessels is that these playthings have more decks. The typical mega ones may carry five decks above water, and may even include two more decks just below the water level. Simply put, these properties offer more areas for fun as compared to the rest.

Cinemas, bars and great dining halls are already standard on most luxury yachts. But for the mega ones, then these vessels add a little extra for the guests. Usually these vessels may carry helicopter hangars, more indoor swimming pools and miniature submarines. Simply put, these sea vessels can be considered as the elite of the elite and the cream of the crop. And yes, because of its nature and cost only a few exists out there. And the enthusiasts can be only dream of having one due to its price.

European River Cruises - Backpackers of the 60's Take to the Water

By John McGlade

No self respecting flower child, who backpacked through Europe in the late 60's and early 70's, would be caught dead on a multi-day motor coach tour. The memory of the 1969 movie "If it's Tuesday, it must be Belgium" is still all too real. "No way", they say "That's not for me."

Now, all these baby boomers are in their late 50's and 60's. They still feel the allure of European travel, but how to do it?

Many have discovered what the Europeans have known for years, a river cruise is a hassle free, non-regimented way to travel. The travelers only job is to stow their suitcases and show up for meals. What could be easier?

There are numerous choices. Short cruises are available from 3 - 6 nights on the Rhine, Rhone, Seine and Danube. Longer cruises range from 7 to 28 nights and will take you from Amsterdam to the Black Sea and almost everywhere in between.

Think of a country in Europe and there is probably a navigable river or canal within its borders. Aside from the obvious programs on the Rhine and Danube, there are cruises on Elbe connecting Europe's two hottest cities: Berlin & Prague.

Portugal, Spain, Hungary and Italy have river cruises. France is served by 3 major rivers including the Rhine, Rhone and Seine, as well as numerous canals that crisscross Burgundy, Provence, the Loire, Alsace and the Aquitaine. There are even barge canals in England, Scotland, Sweden and Ireland.

River cruising was getting its start when those very same backpackers were getting their first taste of the continent. The first river cruise ships in Europe were converted cargo barges. But, times have changed. Now they are ships, specially designed to move passengers in comfort offering fine dining, great scenery and interesting ports.

What makes the river cruise so attractive? Unlike ocean cruises, where the ship is almost always docked in some awkward or sketchy part of town, a river cruise ship is more like a nice hotel that moves from one central location to another. With very few exceptions, Europe's main cities grew up around the river and the old town is never more than a short stroll away from the river pier.

Another of the attractive features of the river cruise is that the voyage is as important as the destination. Scenery along the way ranges from pastoral to breathtaking. Dine or have a drink while you float past castles, monasteries, towering cliffs and small villages.

Free time in port is totally flexible. Join one of the excursions (often walking tours through the old town), go off on your own with your guide book, enjoy a beer or some shopping on your own or just stay on the ship and read a book. You're in the heart of town, so it's easy to disembark after dinner for a walk or in the morning for a run.

The largest river cruise ship holds 200 passengers; the average ship has 70 cabins that accommodate 140 guests. Barges are more intimate with 3 - 10 cabins. If you take a barge cruise, it's a good idea to bring your fellow passengers with you. They are ideal for small groups of family and friends.

Virtually all river cruise cabins are outside, affording large windows to enjoy the scenery and provide lots of light. Air conditioned, with TV, radio and hair dryers, these are very pleasant "hotel rooms." Each cabin has its own facilities including shower, sink and toilet. They are small but are very functional.

The cabins, while comfortable, are not the best places for viewing the scenery. The cabin only has views out one side and that's just half the scenery. The lounge or the sun deck is the best locations for enjoying the scenery.

Meals are included and arrangements vary by cruise companies but breakfast is usually buffet style. Lunch can be buffet or served. Dinner will be several courses but unlike ocean cruises, river cruises are not completely focused on eating every 2 hours.

The guest determines the pace of the cruise. Sit with a good book on deck, explore every back alley in each port of call or just sit with a beer in an outdoor café.

To re-explore Europe without the headaches, give a river cruise a try.

Luxury Cruise Lines - Do They Provide the Best Vacation Deals?

By Dean Forster

Luxury cruise lines are supposed to be the best way to spend a vacation at sea. After all, money is supposed to give you the best service, right? Well, with the rates on offer, these ocean experiences better be good. To have an idea whether luxury equals comfort and to know whether passengers really do get their money's worth from these liners, we examined the services and accommodations provided by several luxury cruise providers

1) Crystal Cruises - According to Travel + Leisure, Crystal is the best large ship cruise line in the world. The magazine has given this accolade to Crystal for several years. The cruise line appeals mostly to affluent travelers who like comfort and the best accommodations. The dining experience and service at Crystal's ships have been deemed to be of highest quality. The Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity vessels accommodate between 940 and 1,080 passengers.

Despite having larger ships than most of its luxury line contemporaries, Crystal is able to give the highest level of service to its passengers because of the high passenger-staff ratio aboard its vessels. The ships also have facilities for children and teenagers and various enrichment programs ranging from ballroom dancing lessons to language classes. The suites are designed to provide comfort and privacy, with butler service on penthouse accommodations. All in all, Crystal does deserve the accolade, but of course, you need to be able to afford it to find out for yourself.

2) Regent Seven Seas Cruises - Named as the "Best Small Cruise Line" by the periodical Travel + Leisure, this cruise company is best known for its refined, but laid back ambiance. It has four ships, the Voyager and Mariner which accommodate 700 guests, the Navigator that allows for 490 guests and the Paul Gauguin, the most intimate of the four and much preferred by honeymooners, with only 330 guests.

Accommodations at Regent are said to be top class, with all staterooms having ocean views and most having private balconies. Dining is also of the highest quality, with the ships being the only fleet that contains Le Cordon Bleu restaurants. It has a no-tipping policy and has various enrichment programs that have received high ratings from reviewers. According to most reviewers, Regent is on top of its category for its unique concepts and for starting a few "firsts" in the field of small ships cruising.

3) Silversea Cruises - Is a medium size luxury line that is known for having top flight inclusive packages. Of course, the price is still high since it's a luxury liner, but considering the offerings, the rates of this cruise company are still considered reasonable. It appeals to well-traveled, well-monied passengers who like understated, casual and refined atmospheres.

Silversea has five ships, the Silver Cloud, Silver Wind, Silver Shadow, Silver Whisper and Prince Albert II. Prince Albert II is the smallest, with only 132 guests allowed. The Wind and Cloud can book 298 guests each, while the Shadow and Silver accept 382 guests. The cruise line is not much into enhancement programs like other luxury brands, but its itineraries have been rated highly for going beyond being luxurious. Silversea appeals mostly to grown-up customers. Children are a rarity aboard since it does not offer special programs for kids.

Luxury cruise lines all aim to cater to the needs of their customers who can afford their rates. If you have the money to spend for it, you can get all the luxury you want from these cruise liners.

Cruising the Mediterranean

Cruising the Mediterranean
By Rebecca Robbins Platinum Quality Author

Have you ever wanted that taste of Europe but not the hassles of visiting the different countries by land? Try taking a Mediterranean Cruise. Mediterranean cruises generally sail from May to October although some do sail from late April to early September and a very few sail year around. Before you begin to book your cruise, choose a ship that has an itinerary that will suit your needs and has everything that you are looking for.

Carefully plan and choose your shore excursions and other city tours, because if you plan to book them independently you will need to have to have some cash converted to that country's exchange rate. It is wise to consider booking your excursion through your cruise ship giving you the opportunity to see the same sights and saving you a little money and you won't have to deal with the exchange rates. You will however need that country's Euro if you plan to purchase souvenirs while in port. Money can be converted onboard ship and any that you don't spend can be converted back to the U.S. dollar when you re-board ship.

Cruising in the Mediterranean in the fall is a perfect time to miss the entire summer tourist traveling abroad. Depending on your itinerary, the fall weather is generally pleasant but check with the weather service for fall weather conditions to the cities and ports that you will be visiting.

If choose your Western Mediterranean cruise you will visit the major cities in countries such as Spain, Italy and France as well as intriguing and exciting Monte Carlo. An Eastern Mediterranean cruise will take you to enticing countries such as Greece, Turkey and some of the Aegean Sea Islands. The longer Mediterranean cruises will take you to both the Western and Eastern Mediterranean.

If this is your cruise of choice know what actual port of call your ship will dock in, some ships may not dock in a city that you wish to visit and another way transportation will be necessary, so it may be in your best interest to take a cruise ship affiliated shore excursion. Cities such as Rome, Athens, Istanbul and Florence offer some of the best ancient, cultural and historic sites there are while the Greek Islands are a must if you love beaches and the sun. There is no other cruise that compares to a Mediterranean cruise if you want to see several countries in a short period of time. Once you have made up you mind, as always book through a reputable cruise line or travel agent or agency.

Bon Voyage

Historic Places to Visit in Britain

By Robert Meldrum
Robert Meldrum
Level: Basic PLUS

Britain is a great place to visit if you are interested in History; it has many castles, ancient monuments and attractions to visit.

London is home to some of Britain's most famous landmarks. Buckingham Palace and the infamous Tower of London can be visited as a group. You can also take one of the big red tourist buses around London and listed to some of the history and attractions.

British Museum
This museum holds more history than any other museum in the world. Up until five years ago, most of the museum's collections had been stored away in the warehouse. Now the exhibits are on full display and ready to impress.

Stonehenge
Stonehenge is one of the most remarkable man-made creations of the ancient world. Created from large stones which had to be sailed to Britain from France, this work of art is believed to have been erected between 3,000 B.C. and 1600 B.C.

Very little is known about this mysterious location, but recent evidence points that it may originally have been a burial mound for a king, which changed over the years into a religious icon. To this day, pilgrims and druids from all over the world continue to meet during the longest day of the year.

Glastonbury
Cloaked in the mystery of the Arthur legend, this area is thought to be the resting place of the graves of the true Arthur and Guinevere, and is believed to be the location of the island of Avalon. Glastonbury Tor is a giant man-made hill that used to once hold a church on the top of it. Now, only the bell tower called the "tor" is available. When the morning mist covers the surrounding town of Glastonbury and crawls slowly up the hill, it is easy to imagine that beneath the mist is the fabled lake, home to the Lady of the lake.

Although Glastonbury is large, it should not be missed by any group of true history buffs. There is even a sacred well, which is thought to be one of the possible locations of the Holy Grail. Each year hundreds of pilgrims come here to offer prayers and drink in hopes of benefiting from the blessed water.

Bath
Bath and the stunning countryside surrounding it is one of England's most beautiful places to visit. Bath, England, is a unique city; its hot springs, Roman Baths, splendid Abbey and Georgian stone crescents have attracted visitors for centuries. Set in rolling Somerset countryside, just over 100 miles west of London, it is a beautiful and unforgettable place to visit.

Tintagel-Tintagel Castle
Tintagel-Tintagel Castle is also part of the Arthur legend. Although only ruins of the castle can now be seen, Tintagel is thought to be the site where the sage Mernyl, also known as Merlin, fought and lost the battle with Morgan de Fay. It is also believed to be the final resting place of Merlin's body and his cave filled with ancient knowledge and magic. Perfect for the historian at heart!

Imagine a Honeymoon Cruise

By Elle N. Dee
Elle N. Dee
Well, for starters; we are not huge gurus, we are not the most well known or most gifted bloggers in the world, we are not ... ...

Imagine it!! Relax after all these months of pressures, planning and decisions, enjoy your honeymoon and not worry about another thing. Sounds pretty good, right?

A cruise ship is a floating city. A high quality place to stay with meals, activities, and entertainment all included without any additional planning. Cruise ships also have a very high employee to guest ratio. You will be pampered, as well as relaxed.

You can shop, go to the beauty salon, have your clothes laundered, and even go to the gym. When you consider all these factors, a cruise honeymoon can be a very affordable option. In fact, a cruise is the original all inclusive honeymoon package.

Depending on the cruise line, a honeymoon cruise package might include:

* Flowers, champagne, and fresh fruit or a gift basket in your Stateroom upon boarding
* Appetizers delivered to your cabin on the evening of your choosing.
* An exclusive party for you and the other honeymooners aboard the ship.
* Photographs
* Champagne breakfast in bed on the morning of your choosing
* Spa treatments or even massage.

Your honeymoon cruise destination choice is only limited by your imagination and your personal tastes and interests. There are cruises available virtually anywhere there is a large body of water. Even some large rivers and lake systems have regularly scheduled cruises. The available length of cruise is just as varied--running the gamut of a long weekend, to several weeks or a month or more.

Cruise honeymoons are the ultimate in convenience. Think about it, you travel but your room travels with you. In fact, you bring a whole city along. You can disembark to sight see but without toting your luggage from place to place, or spending half a day checking in to a new room and unpacking at each new destination.

Norwegian Cruise Line Delivers a Total Redesign With the F3

By Roy Witman

It sounds more like a fighter plane than a cruise ship, but Norwegian Cruise Line's in-the-works F3 is slated to take the cruise industry by storm. In a radical move, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) CEO Colin Veitch told Travel Trade magazine, "We have thrown away the rule book of ship design and started with staterooms."

While most of the design elements are still tightly under wraps, industry buzz is centered on the shape of the entry-level staterooms. In addition, talk focuses on what's missing in the F3 as much as what has changed.

The Bathroom

Anyone who's ever sailed on a cruise ship knows to expect a large box as you walk through the door. This obstruction houses your cabin's bathroom and, while certainly necessary, it protrudes into the living area taking up a lot of floor space.

In a new cabin design called the "Wave," NCL has split the bathroom. Wave cabins will have a shower cubicle on one side and a toilet cubicle on the other. An open vanity with sink and wash area have been repositioned in the living space. The result of this one simple change is a stateroom that feels more open and roomy.

"Feels" is the operative word.

Stateroom Designs

The most noticeable design upgrade in the staterooms is the curved walls. Again, while not actually gaining very much actual square footage, the illusion is that you have a more spacious living area. This new, modern décor is more sophisticated moving away from the vibrant, sometimes outlandish designs of earlier ships in the NCL fleet.

An earth-tone palette offset with deep shades of blues, reds and oranges lends a more elegant flair to even the most basic of cabins.

What about popular accommodations such as the Garden Villas and Courtyard Villas? Company executives assure guests they won't be disappointed at the makeover that's been planned for these cabins.

Exceptional Nightclubs

In the spirit of an entire makeover of the cruise experience, Norwegian's F3 ships will offer some exclusive and highly untraditional nightlife options for guests starting with a "nightclub" that isn't just for nights.

POSH Beach Club aims to start your day with morning cocktails, yoga classes and wake-up music that sets the mood. Afternoons will unveil private cabanas, exhilarating music, spiked snow cones and plenty of time for sunning. As night falls, POSH will transform into an exclusive nightclub with dancing and bottle service. In addition, Halo, an indoor version of the POSH Beach Club, will serve as the private nightclub for those booking the Garden and Courtyard Villas.

Bringing an innovation from Scandinavia, each F3 ship will have its own "ice bar." Complete with fur coats and mittens for passengers and plenty of vodka, NCLs ice bar will - like others around the world - be totally frozen. With a temperature of 17 degrees Fahrenheit, turnover will be high. Most guests will come for a drink or two then move on to other party venues aboard ship.

For those looking for a middle ground between uber-exclusive and frozen solid, there's Spice H20. Another "transforming" environment, Spice will revolve through three phases each day: Sunny Spice, Aqua Spice and All Spice. Guests will enjoy a range of music, activity and food choices throughout the day and night.

Ship Specifics

Two F3 ships are underway, but they won't see the open ocean until 2010. At 150,000 tons, each ship will hold 4,200 passengers. Eighty percent of staterooms will follow the new Wave design and 100% of all outside cabins will offer balconies.

With many industry firsts coming from NCL, now is an excellent time to cruise. If you're a die-hard cruise fan, mark your calendars so you can pre-book your tour on the new F3s. If you're new to cruising, check out other innovative ships in the current NCL fleet and find the time of your life.

Disney World Cruises

By Carlos Montenegro Platinum Quality Author

Carlos Montengero has been a writer for almost 3 years. During that time, he has wrote on a variety of topics with some based on ... ...

More people are going on cruises. If you think that this is just for couples, think again because Disney World cruises promises to make this a fun filled vacation for the entire family.

Disney world cruises set sail to the Bahamas, the Caribbean and Mexico. Since these destinations are quite close to the mainland, most of these last for just a few days.

Most packages last 8 days and 7 nights with the first 3 days at the amusement park before you get to board the ship. Those who want to stay longer can avail either of the Mediterranean or transatlantic adventures as well.

Unlike other cruises liners, Disney World is quite new in the business and they only have 2 vessels. These are namely the Wonder and the Magic. Both of these have similar features and amenities on board that can hold 2400 guests each. There are plans to add two more ships to the fleet that can hold about 4,000 passengers by 2011 or 2012.

Each night on board one of these ships promise to be different because guests will experience a rotational dining system. This means you will get to eat in one of three dining rooms nightly while most only offer this in one large room.

Meals are already included in the package so the only thing you have to spend for will be drinks. You can avoid this by bringing some on board for the entire trip.

Despite the large number of passengers, you will notice that the state rooms and suites are not cramp making it possible to hold 5 passengers.

There are many things to do on board and to help you out, they have counselors that plan games and other activities. For those who want to spend some time away from the kids, you can ask the crew to assign someone to babysit them.

Given the popularity of Disney World cruises, customers are advised to book their trip at least 6 months in advance. On the day of your departure, make sure you are there at least 2 hours before because they make it a point to leave on time. If you miss your boat, they will try to make arrangements for you to meet up at the port where the ship will be docking. Should there be weather problems, the trip will be rescheduled at a later date.

One thing you should keep in mind when you go for a Disney World cruise or any other is to bring your passport. You are leaving US territory and you have to show this to the customs agent when you make a port call.

Royal Caribbean's Sovereign of the Seas

The best vacation I ever have taken was on Royal Caribbean's Sovereign of the Seas. I went with my two best friends. We chose the 4 day cruise that went from Monday to Friday morning. I admit I was slightly intimidated when I began reading and viewing pictures of the cruise ship.

I just took my very first cruise before Christmas 2007. I went with very little expectations and have to say Wow and I am definitely going again very soon! Honestly I felt like I might get lost on a big ship.

Granted, I had figured cruises were for mostly the fru, fru's and stuck ups. I was totally wrong. Along with myself, my best friend and his wife went with me and we were all first time cruisers. We drove 10 hours to get to Port Canaveral.

First off, when we arrived to Port Canaveral (Orlando) Florida to board the ship, we thought for sure we were going to be waiting a long time having to unload our luggage, park, go through security and checking in.

Wrong!

From the time we arrived at the terminal to the time we boarded the ship was a little over 45 minutes. The lines looked long, however, they moved efficiently and quickly. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. We had our Set Sail Passes signed as well as our boarding pass information and health declaration (while in line).

By the time we were on the ship and to the deck where our Oceanview stateroom was located (deck 8) our luggage was sitting waiting on us.

Yes, the room was small. It was very clean though. Our stateroom attendant did not take long to show up and introduce himself.

Just before we left the port we had to have a safety drill. Of course I knew that over 2,000+ guests were on board and I did dread this part because well, not everyone usually cooperates and I figured this was going to delay our departure.

I was so wrong. It was done and over with in about 30 minutes. We left port on time (5pm).

I came to this website to read reviews before going and yes, around the second day there was that musty smell from wet carpet. It did not take long for it to subside though. And, everyday I seen housekeeping vacuuming as well as using a carpet cleaner.

Everyday that we used the make up room card (left in our door), our beds were made up and the carpet vacuumed. And yes, we received animal shaped towels on one of the beds every evening.

Yes, the bathroom is also small, but it was always clean as well.

Let me say this much about the room and bathroom: It may be small, but they made it as comfortable as they can. Besides, there are plenty of things to do on the ship so majority of the time you are not in the room anyways!

Eating is not a problem. We ate at the Windjammer for lunch once we got settled in. The food was great and the service was awesome. I got Chinese food along with some chop sticks. It did not take long for one of the Asian waiters to come over and patiently work with me teaching me how to use the chop sticks!

Our assigned Dining room was the Mirage, late seating (8:30). While that time seems late it really wasn't. In fact, it was perfect timing. You don't go hungry on the ship. The food was great every single night.

And if for some reason you are not happy, they'll quickly get something else for you ( I never asked for something different).

Our waiter and his assistant were incredible. They quickly remembered our names. There were six of us at one table. Our glasses were often refilled, our food quickly arrived to us as well as rolls served while waiting.

Breakfast was also awesome. The buffet offers something for pretty much everyone. Biscuits, Gravy, Sausage, Bacon, Eggs, Hashbrowns, French toast, Waffles, Pancakes, Cereal, you name it they have it. My best friend mentioned the last day of the cruise he doesn't care for hashbrowns, but the ones on the ship he absolutely loved!
Tables are quickly cleaned so seating is usually right away.

I had the opportunity to attend a Welcome aboard show that included the Royal Caribbean Singers & Dancers which was a great show. I also attended a show in the Follies theater with comedian Steve Smith as the headliner. He was hilarious. I also went to his late night show for adults which was just as good as the first one. I attended the Captains welcome aboard party where free drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic) were offered.

We spent a little time in Casino Royale. It took a little time for us to understand how the machines work as the .25 slots only took cash not coins. When you win any amount you have the choice of continuing with a credit or printing out a coupon to redeem.

The second day on board we were out to CocoCay. The weather was sunny, cool and very breezy. By the late afternoon they had to limit the times for the tenders traveling back and forth from the ship to the island and vice versa because the water was becoming extremely choppy. We had to wait quite awhile to board the ship because the gang plank kept getting pushed up. Two of the crew were very patient and helpful making sure everyone got back on the Sovereign safely.

Checking in and out (going from CocoCay and back) was quick and painless. All of the crew were organized, helpful and friendly. It was crowded yet it was moving at a reasonable pace. You were not standing in one place for very long.

Throughout the day we were informed over the intercom (mostly by Casey, our cruise director) of activities. Our stateroom attendant also left us a cruise compass everyday. We also watched Channel 27 which I highly recommend doing.

Throughout the day we were often greeted by Royal Caribbean staff. Anytime we encountered the staff they were always smiling. It felt good to be acknowledged.

I did have some complications with using internet which is quite pricey at .50 a minute. They did offer a few packages in which I had purchased the $25 one for 60 minutes worth of access. However, access on the desktops on deck 4 was very, very slow and the minutes were quickly getting used up. Because of issues with me signing up I did receive a credit. I went to the guest relations desk and was taken care of quickly no questions asked.

Even though I was told I wouldn't have access to the internet using my laptop in my stateroom my best friend and I tried it out anyways since our room was so close to the Voltage night club which is a hot spot for Wi Fi. It worked so much better !

The music was so much better than I expected. Modern music, classics, latin music among various types were played. You can expect to hear music throughout the day on the cruise ship or the island.

I did a little shopping on board and the stores are okay. I do wish they offered more t shirts for the younger children. It was disappointing to leave without t-shirts for my three kids. They are pricey though for the shirts offered even though I got two for $30 (on sale). Even though the shop was crowded I didn't have to wait very long to checkout.

I wanted to check on my onboard credit so I went to guest relations and didn't wait long. The attendant was very friendly, smiling and helpful. Anytime I had any concerns or questions they were very polite and eager to answer them.

From the first day I had made up my mind I am cruising again very soon. I loved the atmosphere of the Sovereign. The next time though I want to take my family as well.

The last day though I was saddened to know that the Sovereign will only be cruising through the end of October 2008 and then she heads to Europe. Monarch of the Seas will be taking her place when it departs Los Angeles on a 16-night Panama Canal cruise to Miami. The ship will then undergo a scheduled, weeklong dry-dock before it takes the first Port Canaveral guests for three and four-night Bahamas sailings after the first week of November 2008.

I want them as well as others preparing or considering taking a cruise with Royal Caribbean to experience what I did. It was truly the vacation of a lifetime. It was the best one ever for me and the service was awesome.

Here are some words of advice and tips:

-Parking for the 4 night cruise cost us $48 (2007)

-Have all of your paperwork ready before you step in line in the terminal

-Take an extra change of clothes in a carry on bag when boarding

-Be prepared for the security as your carry on items go through the x ray machine

-You will do a lot of walking, going up escalators, standing in line but it doesn't take too long.

-Lunch is offered onboard the ship the day of arrival!

-Rooms are small, but luggage can be stored under the beds and closet space has shelves, desk has a few drawers

-There is an outlet by the desk and in the bathroom

-If you get drinks other than the drink package offered, be prepared for paying a gratuity on top of the price of the drink unless you get it at the pool bar, dining room or one of the lounges! Gratuity was 15% for each drink we purchased from one of the guys walking around at CocoCay or around the pool/Windjammer Café.

-Sovereign of the Seas offers the gratuity package which ended up being $39 per person in our stateroom. Tipping is customary whether on the ship, CocoCay or in Nassau. Make sure you save money for this!

-I recommend purchasing gift certificates ahead of time whether for yourself or another guest cruising with you or just as a gift for someone. You can redeem them for onboard credits on your SeaPass card. (The three of us spent approximately $515 in four days on souvenirs, gratuity package ($120), internet as well as drinks with cups we kept.

-Be prepared to use the stairs much of the time. The elevators can be slow and at times crowded! Majority of the time people on the elevators are generous to make room.

Remember to keep out a change of clothes the night before disembarking! They will tell you to have your luggage tagged and out in the hall before midnight. We ate breakfast early and then prepared to disembark. The line was long but it went very fast. Everyone had various color coded luggage tags (red, tan, blue, etc) .

Another suggestion is to somehow make your luggage unique in some fashion. We borrowed my parents luggage that was solid black. We had to sort through similar ones and wait for 10 minutes for all of our luggage.

From the time we got in line to disembark until we loaded up our vehicle, once again it took us approximately 45 minutes.

If you are looking into taking a cruise with children, this is the best one. I had the opportunity to meet other parents and kids. They have plenty of activities for the kids to do while the adults get to have some fun time. The staff who take care of the kids are highly qualified. As a mom to three kids, I am definitely looking in to taking mine on a cruise soon.

Royal Caribbean has outstanding service that makes you feel welcomed and appreciated for your business. You definitely will feel like royalty on board.

Review of Norwegian Gem Transatlantic Cruise Barcelona to Boston

By Ellen Mcnulty

A solo cruise on the Atlantic in December was just what I needed - no phones, no emails, and just many days of lazing around, doing whatever I liked on a brand new ship.. Just perfect!

Launched: 2007 Passengers: 2,384 Registry: Bahamas Tonnage: 93,000 Crew: 1,154 Decks: 15

Since I was traveling solo, I was determined to be outgoing, although that is not my nature. When we arrived at Barcelona Airport, I talked to anyone who looked like a likely prospect for the same cruise. I met Pat and Mike, a nice couple from Connecticut, who had spent the prior week in India, at their son's wedding. They did not like India, and were pleased to be back in civilization. I met another fellow, and then a very proper looking American fellow, none of whom wanted to share a cab to the ship. (Too much luggage, I was told). 20 euros later (with tip), I was at the docks of the sparkling Norwegian Gem. The decoration that look from afar to be flowers on the hull, were gems. I should have guessed that. No fanfare, no lines, and within 5 minutes I was through the duty free area and on board.. The decor was more subdued than most NCL ships, thankfully. Still all turquoise, blue, melon and burgundy was everywhere. The carpet pattern in the hallways is ocean like, and I was later told, the carpet dolphins swim towards the front of the ship to aid in finding your way.

It was 5PM by the time I boarded. I met with our Cruise Critics in the Star Bar at 6PM. A nice bunch of people, but I had the good fortune to sit at a table with two English couples, Wendy and Mike, and Ken and Jean. They were friendly and welcoming. I discovered that Wendy and Mike now lived in Florida, and the other couple in California. After an hour or pleasant conversation, they invited me to dinner, but I declined. I was still dressed in jeans, the one outfit that is not allowed in the fancier dining rooms. They recommended the Blue Lagoon, and I had some good Tex-mex food there. The evening entertainment in the Stardust Theatre was a singer- dancer replica of Sammy Davis Jr, whom I did even like when he was alive. I stayed for the whole show, though and won $54 in an instant win game (Like Lotto scratch off cards) .

Day 2 I really wanted to sleep all day, but with a meet and greet party at 1030, that wasn't possible. All 103 Cruise Critic people were there, and we met some of the staff. I met a few more people whose names I knew from the board. Always nice to associate a face with a name. An art lecture (and one free print later), a Red Hat Lady meeting where I seemed to be the only participant the dinner with Ken and Jean. Ken excused himself and Jean told me her very interesting life story until the wee hours of the morning. Mine is not an eighth as interesting! Everything from the daughter of a chip shop owner, to a single mother after a failed marriage to finding her way to America with her second husband Ken and her then teenage daughter.

Day 3. I slept so late that I missed breakfast. I went to the gym, but with a massive headache, I felt sick and lasted there only a few minutes. I walked by the outdoor pool, and the sunshine was warm, even though we were now in the Atlantic. Bingo for 40 minutes, and I left $35 poorer. A VERY L O NG art auction brought a second free print, but not much else.

Day 4 Funchal our only port of call. Madeira is a jewel rising from the Atlantic with poinsettias on TREES, beautiful orange cone like flowers - aloe. And bougainvillea. The island features a long steep climb to top with volcanic peaks, and Nuns Valley below. It was a beautiful day. At the top of the toboggan run, an accordion player in a white outfit with a Madeira hat entertained us while we waited a few seconds for our sledge to arrive - a two seater flanked by two men in white with jaunty straw hats. The toboggans or sledges were fun, When the slowed or stopped, the men added wax to make them run over slow spots. The photo taken en route showed two large sized women, crammed into the sledge with mouths open. I bought a brightly colored Madeira hat and football jerseys featuring the local hero, who apparently plays for Man United. We returned to the ship just before it left.

Day 5 I was scheduled for a bowling tournament, but arrived ½ hour after it started. What a concept, bowling at sea. The waves did nothing to help my score. We each threw a ball, and the next person finished the frame. My team was easily eliminated on the first try. The highlight of the day was the murder mystery dinners. We were assigned to teams of 6, each with the same story, and led to the Grand Pacific dining room, where we acted out our parts. I played Holly Day, a billionaire's wife on vacation in Hawaii. It certainly kept the conversation going during dinner.

Day 6. Today's evening entertainment, a comedy troupe from Second City were excellent. Ship - excellent, spacious, always being touched up, even only 6 weeks after 1st sailing.

The rest of the journey was blur. I read 3 ½ books. I slept well. The weather on board out on open deck was warm enough to just wear a long sleeved shirt - no coat or vest needed. My overall impression: Food excellent Specialty restaurants Teppenyaki very good (like a Benehana) and the Italian La Cucina was excellent. Do it yourself laundry on board. Entertainment varied, some just okay, some excellent. Room stewards efficient and made fun towel animals nightly.

I would definitely travel on the Norwegian Gem again, and would not hesitate to do a trans-atlantic cruise, even in the dead of winter.

Celebrity Millennium Mediterranean Cruise Review

By Ellen Mcnulty

We sailed from Marseille on a Mediterranean cruise with Celebrity, on the Millennium. A business meeting in Dublin caused us to miss the first day of the cruise from Barcelona, but since that was also where the cruise ended, we knew we would see it anyway. Marseille - taxi from airport 40 euros. Arrived in the rain, so tired that we decided to sleep the day away rather than visit Marseilles or nearby Provence.

Dinner companions included a couple from Northern Ireland, a couple from Holland Park in London and another from Miami. Traveling with my best friend was an asset as we moved around the table nightly to talk to the others at the table.

Food. The first night, I was disappointed by the food. Celebrity has such a fine reputation for food that I was expecting more. My cruising experience is not vast to this point, but I was expecting it to be better than Holland America, and it was not. On our first formal night there were only 6 of us rather than 8, and the food was excellent. After a LONG day in Rome, we opted for the buffet dinner, which was fine and filling, but not memorable by any stretch of the imagination. Lunches on board were the usual salads, hot meals, hamburgers and pizza, which the very popular ice cream bar.

Spa: The first day on board, we signed up for everything for our day at sea - classes, lectures, and a pedicure. It was excellent. However, being a day at sea, the only spa appointment to be had was at 8AM, and that early start required that I take a nap (oh the luxury of cruises) late morning to recoup. Our day at sea was event filled, from pedicures to a shopping lecture to an art auction, ribbon rose making, lunch, spa lectures, history lectures and more. We had so many things on our agenda that we missed our Cruise Critic meeting and a few other things as well. Simply too much to do.

Our ports: Villefranche, the port for Nice was alluring, with its typical Cote d Azur landscape of seafront restaurants with their awnings blowing in the breeze, ochre and saffron colored houses stretching up the hillside, citadel and gardens. The charming small town of Villefranche easily occupied us for an afternoon, but fellow travelers marveled at the beautiful hilltop village of Eze, and the ease of taking the train to Monaco or to Nice and Cannes. In half an hour and only for a few euros, you are in the center of Cannes or Monaco.

For Rome, our port was Civitavecchia, well worth a miss on a Sunday. The train to Rome is about an hour and a half from there, but the infrequent train schedule on a Sunday (check Trentitalia before you leave), caused us to wait an hour for the train, and arrive in Rome too late for our appointment at the Villa Borghese, which has Rome's premier collection of masterpieces, including works by Titian, Caravaggio and Raphael.. In any event, by friend was able to talk our way into the fabulous art collection at that late hour, and for free as well. It was raining when we came out, a reason to stay in the museum café and have an overpriced (though typical for Rome) lunch before making our way to St. Peter's. We had both visited previously, so ours was just a quick visit to oogle some of the things we had missed on other occasions.

Afterwards, a taxi to the train station had us arrive, panting, just in time for our train back to the port. A misunderstanding meant that we did not have tickets, and were fined for not having a ticket when boarding, but the whole trip was worth the expense.

Mykonos We docked at 1PM, and took the shuttle to the town for $10 each. We walked around the harbor, mainly browsing the shops, but also seeing the local church and the Catholic church, the windmills, Little Venice, and walking the winding alleyways with the whitewashed houses, agean blue doors and purple bouganvilla. Back on board, the Greek dancers brought on board made the atmosphere more special. We took a shore excursion.

Ephesus - the highlight of the trip. An unusually early departure 715Am for a full day tour that included Mary's House, Ephesus, a museum, and St John's Church. Marys houses was the most solemn and serene place of the day. In the cool air of morning scented by what I believe were laurel trees, it was wonderful. The trek through Ephesus, by contrast was out in the blazing sun (even in May), but was the highlight of our cruise. It was most impressive - from the men's latrine, the library, to the amphitheatre, and more. The museum had many mosaics and statues from the area. St. John's church was interesting as well. I did not care for the rug store we were shown at the end. The vendors in all shops were TOO aggressive.

A lazy day at sea followed, with lectures, art auction, theater, films and more. Palermo. My choice was to give it a miss, and none of the shore excursions sounded interesting. We did explore on pour own, during siesta, when the shops were closed. It was a mistake - I have never seen a dirtier, less friendly city. We walked to the cathedral and the opera house. I should have stayed on board.

Barcelona: Our cruise ended in Barcelona. We chose a late departure from the ship, and took a taxi to the train station. We were able to store our luggage in lockers, and then take a hop on hop off tour of the city right outside the station. The train to the airport was simple and inexpensive, and easy walk to the terminals. The RENFE train service runs approximately every 30 mins to and from Barcelona airport to the city centre. Travel time approximately 25 minutes. You can catch the train from Estacio de Franca, Passeig de Gracia, or Barcelona Sants (otherwise known as Sants Estacion) The name of the stop you want for the airport is Aeropuerto.
